G5 Word problem

Hi there -
I'm a techno challanged person working with a G5. This computer has had
no virus protection software added to it, and now I'm having problems
with Word: I'm suddenly unable to re-open any new document without
encountering the "macros/may contain virus" warning.
I'm needing to run a virus scan, but do not have any anti virus
software at present.
What is the best antivirus software that I need to/should get for my OS
X G5?

Any advice most apreciated -
Thanks

Hi,
Not necessary you have viruses on your Mac, it can be just document with
harmless macro.

What just happened is that your Word document contains macros. VBA Macros
are used inside Office to help you automate some tasks, but sometims some
not very nice people can write macros which can harm your PC/Mac. Therefore
in word Macro protection is implemented which can prevent the macro to be
run. By that dialog, you described, you are informed thatt he document
contains the macros and you are ask if you want word to run the macro,
that's all. If you are not sure about the macro - whether it's harmless
click do not allow, in other case click all. You can prohibited word to
inform you at Preference>Security> Warn before open file with macros.

Does the message appear whenever you open any document? If so, then the
macro is stored in your template and became more suspicious. If so, please
post back, to give you/us more information.

2, Mac viruses are rare, but if you are woried you can use ClamXav which is
free. Download here: http://www.clamxav.com/

All the good ones are listed here:

I strongly prefer McAfee VirusScan: it does a good job, finds them all, and
doesn't drag your system to a halt. However, obtaining a single-user
licence is difficult: you may have to purchase it through your Apple Store.

I have no recent experience with Symantec's Norton AntiVirus on the Mac. On
the PC, it causes more problems than it cures. It slows the system to a
crawl, and it interferes with legitimate program operation. However, if you
have the power to run it, and can stand the fiddling to persuade it to
permit your normal activities, it will do a good job.

I run ClamXAV.

Cheers
