Games for self-paced online learning

Christie

I want to create games in PowerPoint for online learning. All of the game
templates I've seen require instructor intervention to make it work. Since my
modules will be controlled by the user, I need games that don't require an
instructor to provide the answer, adavnce the game, etc.

I can create simple multiple choice quizzes where the answers are
hyperlinked to slides saying "correct" or "try again." However, I'm hoping to
do something more interesting. Any ideas?

Check out the examples on my site:

I think you will find a lot of what you want. The drawback is that these
examples use VBA so you can't run them with the PowerPoint Viewer or
within the browswer. You could put them on the Web and have students
download them and run them on their own machines with PowerPoint.

Also, if you don't want to use VBA, you might check out Glenna's Dynamic
PowerPoint tutorial. Just beware that some of her tricks won't work on
the Web either:

Hi Christie
Am currently producing some material for students and am experimenting with
the following: Hotspots on pictures/graphics which get hyperlinked to
Yes/No slides; record appropriate messages as part of the mouse click action
for added appeal. Also use Control text boxes for students to put data in
correct order – include a blank control text box as a ‘holding’ box. Use
another Control Text box for the student to enter their name then they can
print out the slide to put into a portfolio - see
http://skp.mvps.org/ppt00040.htm - Shyam Pillai page on how to use VBA to
print the current slide of a slide show. I am a complete novice at VBA but
can see its potential in producing e-learning material. Have found responses
of Bill Foley and David Marcovitz to my questions very helpful. Good luck,
Dai
