Gantt Chart, Start & End Date Formating

I have created a Gantt chart. Initially the start dates and finish dates were in date formatt (MM/DD/YY). After closing the file and re-opening, the date format has changed to decimal (#####.####). An added point is that it is not universal. Some cells are in the mm/dd/yy format and other cells are in the decimal format.

Does anyone know why this occured or how to change the dates back into MM/DD/YY format.
