Morning all, I'm new to visio and have a hopefully simple question!

I'm creating some "Phase Planning" charts in Visio and when I have a
specific task the timescale shows graphically as a long rectangle. I want
the right hand side of that rectangle to be pointed like an arrow for example
- like this >

Is that possible to do ?

Morning all, I'm new to visio and have a hopefully simple question!

Yes, but will need to edit each task bar shape individually.
1. Select on task bar shape, ensure you get the task bar shape itself,
not the box surrounding it.
2. menu Window -> Show Shapesheet
3. You will see a Geometry 1 section containing 5 lines (if you don't
then you have the wrong shape)
4. Selecting each line in turn will show you the appropriate geometry
point on the shape.
To add a pointy bit at the right hand side:
6. click on the 2nd line, right-click menu -> Insert Row After
7. set the row3 Y formula to
=Geometry1.Y2 + Geometry1.Y4/2
8. set row2 X and row4 X formulae to
=Width*1-2mm

That'll give you a starting point if you need anything more
complicated.
