Gantt masters

When you create a Gantt chart in Visio, extra masters appear in the document
masters list (eg "Pri scale cell"). These do not feature in the Gantt
stencils. so could anyone shed some light on how/where these masters get
created from?
Cheers, Andy.

The "Pri scale cell" shape is the shape that shapes the lower of the two time units,
normally the days on a default diagram. The shapes are added or deleted by the Gantt chart
addon automatically whenever the timescale is changed or when tasks are added or deleted.
It isn't a shape you should need access to.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for replying. I referred to the Pri Scale Cell as an example. I was
actually just trying to understand the general principles behind the Gantt
chart add-on. I'm getting the impression that I've pretty much reached the
limit of what I can tweak with the Gantt chart add on.

Cheers,

Andy

The Gantt chart addon and shapes were probably not designed to be easily tweakable.
What do you want to do with it?

Hi Paul,
What do you want to do with it?
Taking "Pri Scale Cell" as an example, I was hoping I could control its fill
colour (eg dark grey instead of beige). As it stands, I can only achieve this
after the master has been created. The master gets saved with the vsd file,
but if you ever create a new Gantt from scratch, you get beige fill again. In
an ideal world I'd like to be able to control this master from source
(wherever that is).

By contrast other Gantt shapes behave differently (eg "Column") in that it
does get its formatting from the VSS master, and is therefore potentially
tweakable.

Cheers,

Andy

The "Pri Scale Cell" shape is in the Masters collection of the Document
Stencil. Masters have a Hidden property which will keep them from being
displayed in the UI and this property is set to True for this shape. You
should still be able to get the master programmatically and change its color
even when it is hidden.

You can also also set the Hidden property to false with some VBA code and
work with the shape through the UI.
