gantt view..., tasks not showing upon opening an existing project

I must of done something (check or unchecked a setting), but when opening any
of my existing projects, the task bars don't show up in the standard gantt
view window until I scroll over to the date range of where the tasks exist.
In other words when the file opens up, I notice the date range in the top
tier is less than the projects starting date.... Any help is appreciated...

R.Scott,
I'd check Project/Project Information and make sure the Start Date is
appropriate for the project you are trying to view - it may have been
changed.

Please note that you can also use the "go to selected task" icon on the
Standard toolbar to instantly "jump" the timescale to the start date of
whatever task is selected when you hit the icon. If that icon is not
currently shown on your standard toolbar, I recommend you add it - it's
very helpful.

John, thanks for answering... The start date under the Project Information
was the first thing I checked. No issues there... Yes I use the "go to
selected task" icon to "re-center" the data/graphical task bars... It is
just strange that on several of my files(projects) this is happening. I did
find a couple of older project files where it seems to work OK... Not clear
on what setting is driving this issue... Also I thought that there is a way
project saves the most recent view, such that, when re-opening it displays
the same way?

R.Scott,
You know, I don't have a good answer for you. I noticed it with some of
my files also but never was to concerned about it so I didn't research
possible reasons. Maybe someone else will chime in with some words of
wisdom.

Sorry.

This seems to crop up now and then and I think that in some of those
cases no good reason is found for the behaviour.

You could record a macro which scrolls to the current date when run and
that would be a reasonable workaround.

If you are into VBA you could attach it to the Project_Open event so it
runs automatically.

R.Scott,
I had another idea. Dave mentioned that this condition crops up from
time to time and that made me wonder if it is perhaps some minor file
corruption. Just for fun, try one or more of the methods described in
FAQ 43 - "Handling project file corruption and/or bloat", which can be
found on our MVP website at, http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm.

Let us know if it helps.
