Gaps between detail in a report

I want a report that will print out like a table. I have created a simple
detail row with single control across the page and vertical lines between
them. The detail is same height as the lines. But when I print out there are
gaps between the vertical lines, ie between the lines of detail. How can I
get continuous vertical lines down my report to separate controls into
columns?
