Garbage characters

Our application is using SMTP protocol with HTML format to send some
notification to users. One of our clients started to report that they are
getting the emails with some garbage characters. However, when it sent to us
it is OK. Below I added to emails received by us and them. As you see inj
their email there are "! " characters are added to the message.

The question: Is this problem of our application or their Email server? How
can it be solved?

Not sure if this has anything to do with your problem; is your
application sending the HTML messages out with some encoding; if so,
what encoding?
