Garbled incomming/outgoing emails in IMAP

When I send or recieve emails in outlook 2003 IMAP there are little square
boxes abouve the message. There is also a huge paragraph of run-on letters
and numbers. Below are examples of both. Why? How to fix my emails to not
look like martian language? Thanks for the assistance.
