General Advice on my Website

cathym

I respect everyone's opinion and have benefited from your advice many times.
Could you take a look at my website and let me know if you have any
suggestions for making it look more professional and / or easier to navigate?
There is a log on page for the parents to view photos of the volleyball
players. Thank you!

Hi Cathy,

I think it looks pretty good. It loads quickly even on a dial-up connection.
Navigation seems clear. It also works well in IE and FF. Good job, me
thinks.

I may have noticed a couple little weird things. First of all go to
http://stillwaterjovolleyball.org/index_files/Page873.htm , which is your
calendar page. You need to give a bit more height to the text box containing
the month and year.

Now while you are on that page, reduce the width of your browser window so
that it is just wide enough for the page without a horizontal scroll bar.
Now click on your home page. Notice it is wider than your calendar page, as
are your other main pages. Do you perhaps have the bottom navbar text box,
or the gray email box extending into the scratch area of your Publisher doc?
This is not a big deal, but even if a page loads ok, you shouldn't allow any
design elements to extend into the scratch area of your document. Design
Checker tool "should" find these little glitches.

Once again, except for these small issues, the site looks and works good...

Who knows? Doesn't take much to figure it out. Thing is...if you suggest
there is security and there isn't, particularly when it comes to images of
minors...hmmm dunno...could be a liability issue.

I suppose you are right.

One more secure way is illustrated by Don's "secret link", which is a link
to a server side password protected folder. That doesn't give away anything
in the code.

no because your password is not in plain-view...now, knowing something about
Italians...I may be able to guess at it after a month or two :)

Thanks everyone. I fixed the calendar page and made the changes so the width
of the pages are the same. You were right - some of my code boxes extended
into the scratch are. Thanks for pointing out these things!

Regarding the lon-on page, I realize that this is giving parents a false
sense of securty. However, it's the best that I can do. My host provider
(godaddy) does not have password protected folders. My only other option is
to use a more sophosticated code for the log-on...

My last question is about the tables on the team pages. Currently, I'm
putting those tables together in excel and doing a paste special as a picture
onto publisher. Then, I overlay the code for the links. I do know the html
code for a table. Is is possible to somehow incorporate the code for the
links into the code for the table? I hope I'm wording this correctly so that
you understand what I'm asking. THANK YOU again for all your help and advice!

Thanks for the feedback.

Can you not import or paste as a table, and then if necessary enter the
additional text and hyperlinks in the cells? If you can't import the table,
have you tried to create a table in Publisher and copy and paste the cell
contents from your Excel table. Recently I was corrected, and tables are not
automatically converted to images in all versions of Publisher when you
publish.

Thank you David. I am trying your suggestion. The tables in publisher seems
to be working so far and it's way easier than putting in all those code boxes

I am new at creating a webpage, but I am attemping to put one together. I
hope you will answer a few questions reguard these posts.
First, I found cathym's ID and PW and like Rob said I didn't find Don's.
But I also didn't find anywhere on his website that needed a PW. My question
is what PW would you be looking for and where would you use it? The only
thing I can think of would be his password at the site where the website was
published.
My second question is; Both of these sites end in .org and have a htm file
name after each page. I went to a few sites that ended in .com and I didn't
find the htm file name. Did those .com sites happen to be more secure or do
all .org and .com extensions shown that way?
