General Annoyances with Office 2003.

Tim Gaastra

Just thought I'd post a couple of annoyances I had with
Office 2003 Beta that I hope will get fixed/corrected.

1. I opened an Access database, and it complained
about "Unsafe queries" and asked if I wanted to continue.
I clicked yes, since this is a database I've used for 5
versions of Access and I know it hasn't changed. It then
proceeded to ask me again if I wanted to open
with "unsafe queries" and to get the latest Jet update
(which I had done, I had thought)... I clicked open
again. AND it asked me again, in a third different
dialog... I know you guys think you're getting all
security conscious and stuff lately, but don't you think
this is just about 2 tons this side of extremely annoying
and excessive?

2. I opened a Word document template which I've been
using for 3 versions of Office, printing on the same
printer, and tried to print it. It complained about a
section being outside the printable area, and did I want
to continue (it's never had this problem before, and
indeed, there isn't anything outside the printable area
on the page, as an actual print out confirms.) I clicked
yes, but then it proceeded to ask me for the following 50
sections the same exact question, with no option
for "just shut up and print it"... So that was 50
clicks...

Hi Tim,

In Word if you open a new document and check
that the default printer in File=>Print is
the current printer and driver then

go to File=>Page Setup=>Margins and set everything
to zero what margin minimums does the printer driver
reset Word to when you choose the [Fix] button and
do any of the sections in the document you were working
with have margins less than that setting?

Have you installed the Technical refresh updates to
Office 2003 from
http://officebeta.microsoft.com/officeupdate ?

Office 2003 does add a number of 'reminder' dialogs
about potential security issues. Some can be disabled
through the security settings in the various apps.
