general cell question

I know that you can place the name of the file (&[File])
into the header and footer of a worksheet. But is it
possible to do the same into a cell? If so, how would it
be done?

John, try this
=MID(LEFT(CELL("filename", A1), FIND("]", CELL("filename", A1))-1),FIND("[",
CELL("filename",A1))+1, 255)

One way:

=MID(MID(CELL("filename",A1),1,FIND("]",CELL("filename",A1))),FIND("[",CE
LL("filename",A1)),255)
