how a new database can be created from a visio database model?
As Al suggested, the enterprise version does forward engineering while the
pro version doesn't. However, if you are stuck with pro, you can use my
(free) utility (URL below) to export the model as XML and then use some XSLT
(also on my website) to transform that XML into a SQL script that can be
used to create a database. The provided XSLT will generate for SQL Server,
so you might have to tweak it a bit for your DBMS but it should get you most
of the way.
