Generating an Access Report that's "editable".

Is there a way of generating an Access report as a text file or Word
document? In other words, that can be e-mailed and edited? I know that an
Access report can be printed as a pdf, but a pdf print file is not generally
editable.

yes, if i recall correctly, you can Output a report object to a .rtf doc
(Rich Text File) which can be opened and edited in Word. .rtf docs generally
look okay, but spacing may be off, and some formatting controls, such as
lines, may not be "carried over".

The short answer to your question is, Yes. :>)

From within Access, using Automation, you could merge your data with a Word
template, save the document and then attach the document to an email.

Albert Kallal has a very helpful utility "MergeToWord" that will do the
merge. Follow this link:
http://www.members.shaw.ca/AlbertKallal/msaccess/msaccess.html
and scroll down the page to the "Super Ease Word Merge" for a download.

As for attaching the document to an email. Just search these newsgroups for
"Email" or "Attachments" and you should find plenty of help.

If you still have questions, just post back here and someone will be glad to
assist.

Tina,

I don't see an "OutputTo" (or equivalent) parameter to the OpenReport
method. How would I do this?

What's the rationale for being editable?

If it's just "because", that's on thing and any one of several
document types will do.

But if it's to enable the user to mark up the document and then
send it back to somebody for importing back into the system;
that's a different set of requirements - and my money would be on
generating an Excel spreadsheet.
