Generic resources vs group resources

Jan M.

Hi,

I often need to use "group" resources in project: programmers,
technicians... , though they are not marked as "generic". They receive
Project Server accounts and their timesheets are updated by their managers.

What features would I lose or gain by using "generic" resources instead of
"group" resources.

Thanks

Jan M.

Here's how Generic resources work:

1. Generic resources are used with skill matching in the Build Team from
Enterprise dialog and with the Resource Substitution Wizard.
2. Generic resources do not have user accounts in Project Web Access.
3. When you publish assignments in Microsoft Project Professional, no
assignments are published for any Generic resources assigned to tasks in the
project.

Comparing #2 and #3 above with your needs, I would recommend you continue
using "group" resources in your projects. Hope this helps.
