Generic vs Non-Generic Resources

Using project server 2007. I need to set the Default Assignment Owner field
for a generic resource. The system does not allow me to do it on a generic
resource but it does on a non-generic resource. What do I loose changing my
generic resources to non-generic resources?

A generic resource, by default can't log on, and therefore cannot have an
assignment owner. Think of the generic resource as a placeholder until you
identifiy the real resource to do the work.

What is the business issue you are trying to solve?

By default the project manager is assigned as the assignment owner and the
tasks show up in his My Tasks list. We would like the assignment owner to be
the person that actually assigns the resources to tasks wh is not the project
manager.

The assignment owner is one person per resource. The issue you are having
with Generic Resources and their assignment owner is I think a bug - having
assignment owners for generic resources doesn't make sense.
Normally an assignment owner fills in the the task status for the resource
(hence it defaults to the resource itself). If the resource manager always
assigns the same resources, then you can make these resources non-generic,
and the assignments will show in the RMs task status for completion.

Have the PM in the plan assign the work to the team leader who can
then re-assign the tasks to one of his resources

When you make them "proposed" don't they drop off of a lot of the reports and
capacity planning views?
