I am trying to find a simple way to draw a genogram showing the relationships
between family members for social work case work.

except for the fact there is specialised software, i'd advice to use either
powerpoint of visio:

otherwise, there might be a feature called organogram in you drawing
toolbar: does that work for you?

searching for "genogram" - adding the word "software" drops it to a mere
23,000 [more pertinent] hits:

If you don't need "professional" symbols you might explore the Flowchart and
Connectors AutoShapes or consider inserting a standard Org chart. However,
suitability & options will vary depending on your version of Word.
