Get remnants of 1st installment off machine

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I installed Mac for Office on a 2nd machine that was networked to the first. It wouldn't let the 2nd machine run it while the 1st machine was running. I un-installed it and install a new version of Office Mac for home, but it still gives me the license violation message when I enter the Offic Mac for home version that was just installed.

Somewhere it sees the info from the original installation even though the program is removed. How do I clean it up?

Thanks.

Did you use the uninstaller to remove it??
If yes (and you still have the problem), try also clearing the
preferences for Office in your user account.

I did not use the uninstaller. I just dragged the first version to the trash as I didn't know there was an unistaller.

Where are the preferences for office in my user account?

You hsoud really use the uninstaller (it's on the install CD as well
actually)

~/Library/Preferences and then look for file with a name beginning with
com.microsoft and for the Microsoft folder.

The uninstaller *should* do the trick though,

This changed in 08.

You can change in Office 2008 using these steps:

Previously in Entourage 2004 and X you could use "Remove Office" to reset
your CD Key. More info

Delete these two files on one of the machines:

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008
Settings.plist

HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2008:Office:OfficePID.plist

When you start an Office app, you'll be asked for a CD Key.

If the above fails, please try the following:

Please delete

* \Applications\Microsoft Office 2008 folder
* Your User Folder\Library \Preferences\Microsoft\Office 2008
* Reinstall Office

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:Microsoft Office 2008
Settings.plist

This file didn't exist.

The 2nd file was deleted. I ran the unistaller. When I installed the Office Mac HSE version on my machine again. It stills gives me the message that Office HSE can't start because I have exceeded the allowable number of installations. It notes the user on the other machine even thought that user is using a full (not HSE) Office for Mac on that machine.

I guess I will try and uninstall the version from the other machine and reload it.

Did you look in YOUR USER's Library folder?

Scroll down to the Microsoft folder in Preferences. Look inside the Office
2008 folder for the file.
