get the next value of an autoincremental field

Hello everybody:
I would like to get the next value of an autoincremental field. I don't want
to know it by going to the last record ang getting the last value used. I
suppose access uses an internal table to mantain this sequence. Is possible
to access it?
How?

Thank you very much.

If you are talking about an AutoNumber field, I would not recommend what you
are proposing. Because of the way AutoNumber fields work, there is no
guarantee the next number will actuall be used. It could easily be skipped.

Why do you need to know this value before actually creating it with a
new data row?
