Getting back a file that was saved over

A student in my class saved his project over another students project. Is
there a way to return to an earlier saved version of the document? By this I
mean when he saved his project, he clicked on another file and used that for
his filename so now that project is gone. Can I undo changes or get back the
original project?

No. The only way to restore the original would be if you had a backup copy.
