Thanks Mary:

That article did help, however, it isn't clear how to prevent it from
happening. Maybe I need to get another software package like Paperport or
some other.

Thanks,
Blueboy

Has anybody resolved the white text on black background problem?
I also get scanned color photos displaying in negative.

Yes I read the article but I still don't know how to fix the problem. If I
view an image originally scanned on my old XP computer it displays normally.
When I scan a new document it displays in reverse mode.

That symptom sounds to me like the software that came with the scanner
and how you set it up is incorrectly configured.

When you use the Microsoft Office Document Imaging program to view a
bi-level or
a grayscale TIFF image, the image may appear as a negative image

If I scan using Windows Photo Gallery it scans perfectly therefore the fault
is not with my scanner software. I think I'll disable MSDI and use Photo
Gallery in future.

Problem solved. All scanning and print applications on my computer use the
installed Canon MP510 printer driver except MS Document Scanning.
This was defaulted to "WIA"- Canon MP510.
Changed it to the Canon MP510 driver and all is well.
