Getting "Can't find application excel" error

I switched to an iMac OS.X from windows XP and copied all the excel
files to the iMac. After installing office:mac v.X I get the message
"Can't find application Microsof Excel" when I try to open an excel file
from the File/Open menu option inside Excel. However if I double click
on the file it opens into excel fine. Waht can I do to fix this?
