Getting custom fields from task information into reource view

I have created some custom fields in the Gantt Chart view entry sheet.
When I go to Resource View, I would like to add the custom fields as columns
the same way I am able to add other task information such as Start and Finish
Date.

It seems like the custom field from task information are not available to me
in the Resource View. Is this right?

Should I be using a different approach?

Task data is completely separate and distinct from Resource data (and for
very good database reasons).
Task fields are available in Task sheets and the Resource fields are
available in the Resource sheets.
Even though there is a field called "Start" in both places, it is not the
same field or the same data.

Thanks for the information. This is what I figured but wanted to confirm it.
Do you know if a table can be created that joins task information and
resource usage in the same table. Maybe a custom table? All I want to do is
get the resource usage view but with one additional custom field added to
each task.
