getting 'file not available' error

Word won't open files - keeps telling me they are unavailable. Excel won't
open anything - same problem. As soon as I open any Microsft program, it
tells me that it cannot open some adobe file. When I go to close it, tells me
that the normal template already exsists, do I want to replace it. Even when
I create a new word doc and save it, as soon as I try to open it again, it
tells me it is unavailable. It's impossible to do anything, I can't access
the damn files. I'm ready to reformat the hard drive and reinstal everything
from scratch. Any ideas?

1)Do you have Norton Antivirus installed - it may be related - to rule it
out..
1. Open Norton AntiVirus (right-click on the Systray icon and choose this
option).

2. Click on the Options button at the top of the dialog.

3. In the Options dialog, click on Miscellaneous (menu on the left)

4. Clear the check box for "Enable Office Plug-in."
****Then retest**** If it does not solve the problem start with

1)If you close all of the Office products and start Word by going to Start
Run and then typing winword /a - if you can then open documents it is a
template which may be the problem.
