Getting indents to line-up with tabs

Hey all,

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Using Word 2003 on XP-SP3. I've made my default Normal style to have tabs
every 0.25".

Lately I've noticed that when I "click and drag" the margin icon (the
downward/upward facing pentagons), I cannot get them to line-up with the tab
settings, e.g. on 0.25, 0.5, or 0.75", no matter how carefully I try. I end
up having to double-click on it, which brings up the paragraph menu, and then
I can set the left indentation exactly to 0.25, 0.5, etc. and the hanging
indent to 0.25.

Any ideas?

Tab adjustment on the ruler can be rendered imprecise for any combination of
influences such as window size, screen resolution, Zoom level, etc.
Sometimes there simply no screen pixels available at the exact spot you want
to set the tab stop. Try holding the Alt key while you place/reposition the
tab stop & see if the ruler doesn't provide more precision.

BTW: You've posted to the group for Mac Word. Not a problem in most cases
but there may be some issues involving the PC version that would be more
effectively addressed in the Win Office groups which you can get to from:

Whoops! Sorry 'bout that.

Zooming in didn't work - in fact, magnified the "inability" to position the
tab stop.

However, your advice to use the Alt key made it possible to fine-tune the
placement. Worked well.

Thanks!

Whoops! Sorry about that.

Changes in the zoom didn't help. Merely magnified the inability to place the
tab where I wanted it to go. However, your advice of using the Alt-key worked
like a charm. Nice!

Thanks for the help.
