Getting my contacts to my new laptop

M

I have a new laptop running Visa Premium. I want to get my contacts and
folders from Outlook on my desktop and put them here. I have a wireless
connection and a home network set up.

Not sure what other information you need from me now. I am using Outlook
2003 on both computers.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I tried that and am getting a message saying that File Access is
Denied...that I don't have permission. What can I do?

Is your PST on an external information source such as a USB drive or CD? If
so, copy it to the PC/laptop and remove the read only attribute.
If you've already done that and still get the error, please let me know.

OK...I burned it to a CD and am no longer getting the error message, but it
doesn't seem to be importing anything. What can I do to check to see what is
wrong?

Am I doing something wrong?

Make sure that you've removed the PST from the CD to your harddrive. Remove
the read only attribute (right-click, scroll to properties).

Open Outlook, click on File > Open and browse to the PST and click on it.

That should do what you need.

Done that. The only thing that came over were some really old emails. Do I
need to search the other computer for the PST?

Also, will this also transfer my contacts as well?

Another way is the "File and Settings Transfer Wizard"; use Google for
details.

Got the folders done. Now I have two contact folders and it is defaulted to
the one that it cannot open. How do I delete it?

It is only showing one folder in the outlook navigation pane and that is the
one with all of my contacts in it. HELP!!

In Outlook, click Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories
or address books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book and click Change.
Remove the bogus folder there. If it's not obvious which is the bogus
folder, remove them both, stop and restart Outlook, then right-click the
folder you want showing, choose properties, select the Outlook Address Book
tab, and check the box labeled "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".
