Getting my websites recognized by search engines

I am so new at all of these and have been going crazy creating my own
websites!!!! I finally got them done, but when the page loads some of
the graphics are still a little slow and I don't know what to do to fix
them. I have compressed them and saved them for use on the web and
they still take a second or two to load????
On another note....I type the titles of my websites in the google
search and there is nothing, nada, zip! I am so confused. How are
people going to find my websites if they don't pull up. I used
Microsoft Publisher 2003 and their is a web options button where you
can fill in key words separated with commas to be picked up by search
engines. I filled those out for each page on each website and none of
those keywords are connecting with google.
Here are my websites:

www.KidsAndCandles.com

and

www.RansonsRoyalMaltese.com

Any help with these issues whatsoever will be greatly appreciated. I
don't know what else to do here and I don't have a ton of money to pay
those website engine places.
Thanks for your help,
Suzanne

its going to take time for the search engine's crawlers to find and index
your site. Or you can find a listing service and paying them to get it
done. I think it took about a year for my pages to show up on most of the
search engines but that was years ago. May take less time now!
