getting opuc4.cab blocked while trying to update office 2000

I am trying to update my office 2000 small business after a complete
reinstall and keep getting a message saying opuc4.cab is being blocked by
windaows as it isn't signed. It happens after I get an active-x request. I
have updated office manually to sp3. I haven't encountered this problem
before when i have reinstalled office.

Hi Eddy,

I'm getting the exact same message on the Microsoft Office 2007 update site,
it also happens after i get an active-x request. Have received it on two
different machines, a fresh reload of the operating system and installation
of Office 2007, the other after installing Office 2007, on both machines I
received the error when attempting to update the software. Sorry I don't
have a solution, hopefully someone has bumped into this before.

I am having the same issue for Office 2003 and 2007. I have a new Hard Drive-
I formatted it and installed Windows XP and Windows updates w/out problems. I
installed Office 2003 and get the same error. "Windows has blocked this
software because it can't verify the publisher. Name: opuc4.cab" I can
install SP3 from CD. On a different computer I have Office 2007- I get the
same error message this started 2/26. I looked at KB 304498 and none of the
13 methods for solution worked on eiter box. I uninstalled Offie 2003 and
reinstalled it- same error. Licenses are OEM and activated; firewalls off.

I have a BRAND NEW Dell w/ XP and Office 2003. 3 weeks ago I ran updates- no
problems. I just tried it now- SAME error message. What is going on Microsoft?

I believe that MS is having a problem right now, and hopefully it will be
fixed soon.. I see a lot of posting regarding the Office Updates, here and
on other boards where I contribute... in fact, I just tried to do an Office
Update on my test system and am getting the same errors.

Lets give it a day and see if they get on this..

I've tried to run Office Update on *FOUR* different machines with several
versions of MS Office: Office XP (on two of them), 2003 and 2007. Two of the
four also have IE 7 and the other two IE 6. Same symptoms on all of them:
Gets about 40% complete with checking for updates and then errors to a "Can't
display catalog" message (approximate wording). Tried renaming the OPUC.DLL
file thinking the Active-X might be having problems, and got the same
opuc4.cab being blocked as an "unsigned" file. Been trying to run Office
Update for over a day now.

If you go to the windows update page and get your updates there, it seems to
work. (Avoid going directly to the Office Updates page). Regardless,
Microsoft should get this resolved.

I called both Dell and Gateway regarding the issue- they said it is a
Microsoft problem and to contact Microsoft.

Have tried to update on my work p.c. and kept getting message that office
update catalogue couldn't load.I have seen some 'fixes' but they look too
advanced for me as they seem to involve third party software and hacks, so
for now I have downloaded all the security updates from office and installed
them manually, but it would still be a lot easier if Microsoft pulled it's
finger out as this is now the 3rd day I've tried to use office update.
Thanks for everyone's messages at least I now know I wasn't going crazy or
was doing something wrong.

I have written a note to my lead at MS, and hopefully we can get this
resolved ASAP.

I hope so...when we image our machines, even though they have Office 2000 SP3
(yeah I know we're 3 versions behind), we like to go out to Office Updates
one last time and get everything fully patched before deployment. I have a
bench full of computers that are idle...it would be too tedious to try and
get the patches individually. I didn't realize how reliant we were on Office
Updates (and Windows Updates).

I am having the same issue with 2 BRAND NEW DELL computers with XP
Professional factory installed, and my Dell Dimension E521 with XP Pro & all
WINDOWS updates. I followed all steps in Q304498 to no avail. Why won't
Microsoft own up to any of their problems. Fix the website!!!

I would refrain from installing from this link. The MS update has a problem
with using 100% of system resources. I had it installed and was forced to
remove it. There are directions on the web to do so. I am also having the
difficulty with opuc4.cab. I will just get updates through the auto updates
or forego them until the activex is fixed.

The Windows Update DID work, but it ran at 100% CPU use on startup for about
5 minutes straight, as well as doing so at other times. Again, I would
google, Microsoft update high cpu use or similar.

Hi Matt,

It appears that the problem with the Officeupdate site and the Opuc4.cab control were repaired this afternoon
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/maincatalog.aspx

FYI: MS OfficeUpdate does have a 'genuine Microsoft software' step.
