Getting "Out of memory or system resources" error in Outlook 2003

I recently upgraded Office 2000 to Office 2003 on Windows 2000 Pro (SP 4)
system. Now perodically when I try to open an email in Outlook 2003 I get an
error: "Can't open this item. Out of memory or system resources. Close some
windows or programs and try again." This often occurs when I first load
Outlook after a clean boot, so nothing else is running. I never saw this sort
of problem on Outlook 2000. MS Knowledgebase suggests uninstalling PGP
encryption, but that was never on this system. Anyone have any ideas on what
else might be causing this?

No. I selected the option in Office 2003 setup to "upgrade" and nothing else.

try a new profile - control panel, mail. Don't delete the old one just yet
and don't copy it - make a new one from scratch (if you have multiple
accounts, one account is fine to test it with).

I created a new profile and so far, so good. I haven't seen the out of memory
error with the new profile. I'll post again if it recurs. Thanks for your
help!

Well . . . unfortunately, I spoke too soon. Problem not solved. And, there's
another person in my group with a similar problem after they upgraded to
Office 2003.

The differences are: my system -- I reboot, launch Outlook 2003, try to
open an email message and get the out of memory error. I close the error,
then close Outlook. I relaunch Outlook and from there everything works fine
until I reboot, wherein the scenario repeats. The other person's system --
they get the out of memory error every time they try to open an email, create
a new message, etc., regardless of the number of reboots or relaunches. In
short, they get the message all the time.

We tried creating a new profile on both systems and set the new profile as
the default to load, but the problem still exists on both systems as
described above. We also uninstalled and then reinstalled Office 2003 on the
other system but that didn't fix the problem either.

We're stumped. Any addititional help is greatly appreciated!

I have the exact same problem, and have had it for months. I have no idea
how to fix it. If I leave Outlook opened and never close then I'm fine. But
as soon as I close Outlook and then try to re-open it I have to create a new
profile to be able to view/create any emails without getting the "out of
memory" error. I have even had my MIS group look at it, and they don't know
what to do. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled and that didn't work.

I'm still having the problem. No change since last post.

I don't have to create a new profile each time I open and close Outlook, but
I still get the out of memory error when I try to open an email after I
launch Outlook. I then have to close it and launch it again. On the second
launch I can typically open messages, etc. Occasionally, I'll have to launch
and close Outlook three times before it works. It's annoying but at least I
can get it to work . . . eventually.

Wish I vcould help, but we have one user with the same problem except it's
every time she tries to make an appointment on her own calendar. We've
recreated her profile, detected and repaired, reinstalled Office, run /clean
freebusy and /clean reminders, checked her local permissions and nothing
helps.
