Getting out of Word 2002 Safe Mode

A

Ann Halvorsen

Word 2002 keeps opening up in Safe Mode ever since I "improperly shut down"
Word. I don't have anything disabled, and I'd like to get out of Safe Mode
since features I like cannot be accessed in this mode. I uninstalled and
reinstalled Office XP Professional, and I'm still opening Word in Safe Mode.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Ann,

Even though you are able to start Word this article contains the most
common troubleshooting steps:
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm

Since Word is starting in Safe Mode see if it will start using the /a
switch. Go to Start/Run and run:

winword /a

Note the space before the forward slash.

If Word will start without invoking Safe Mode then use it to work
through the FAQ.

This mode is similar to Safe Mode but it will provide you with more
information. For example you'll note in the FAQ to check for global
templates/add-ins under Tools/Templates and Add-ins. Safe Mode will
display and empty list but this will not happen if you start Word
using the /a switch.

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
