Getting Pissed off with Column Width

Its really strange!
We are using MS project 2003 in our office.
And to my notice, MS project acts really strange.

Here is the problem in brief:
When we open an .mpp document,. the Task Name Column Width is getting
enlarged/increased/expanded ,.. from its original size,.say 8 with which it
got saved earlier..from 8 ,. during the opening process of the doc,.. its
getting expanded to 12" or say 16".. which is pushing the other columns,..

I Dont know if microsoft has got any answer for this..

Please help.. ASAP
