getting rid of tmp files in word

jstech

in my application data folder, i have several temporary word documents, as
well as some automatic save documents.
i cannot seem to delete them. Everytime i try to delete them, windows
explorer locks up on me, (Word is not responding). if i use the task manager
to try and get out of it, the windows explorer quits and the desktop
disappears.
how do i get rid of those temporary files?
i am running win xp pro sp3.

Hi jstech,

Word will delete its temporary files when you close Word normally. The only time it's safe to delete tmp files that might have been
left behind after abnormal program terminations is when the applications that use them are closed.
