getting small cirlces and squares when i click on cells

when i click on some of my cells in a very large spreadsheet i see small
circles and squares with a small circle and a line drawn from the one on top
to the other 4 circles and two squares

these really slow down my spreadsheet and make drag of cells almost impossible
