Getting Started Task Pane is a Pain

The Getting Started Task Pane appears not only when I start Word but every
single time I open a Word document (so frustrating). There is no check box at
the bottom to uncheck; I've tried the Tools-Options-View-Startup Task Pane
uncheck the box option a hundred times to no avail. Any solutions?
