Getting Started with Access

I just installed Access 2003 and need to know how to import a file or how
this program works. I need a data base that is in Excell on my computer. Do I
need a template for it before I load the information?

Thanks

No, you don't need a template. If you have an Excel spreadsheet you want to
import into an Access table, all that is necessary is from your main menu in
Access:
File-->Get External Data-->Import. Just answer the questions in the dialog
that follows, and your spreadsheet will be imported.

Be aware that when importing Excel data, there can be some data type issues
that may arise. For example, Access looks at about the first 25 rows of
Excel data to determine what data type to use. If it sees numbers, it will
try to make the field a numeric type. If later in the data, it encounters
text data, you will get an error.

The easiest way to prevent this problem is to use the "Import into and
Existing Table" option. That means you must first create a new table,
identify the fields and the data types for the fields before the import.
