Getting Started's not easy

I'm trying to get to know this One Note program, but it doesn't help when
what the getting Started Page tells you to do can't be done.
I got stuck on Page 4--Gather clippings. I launched my browser, pressed the
Windows logo and S and tried to select a portion of the page as shown in the
example. First, it wouldn't select just a portion; it selected the whole
thing. second, i couldn't locate it in the Unfiled Notes section.

If I can't do this, how will I ever be able to use One Note's full power?

Anybody with more experience have any suggestions?
Thanks!

Ok... This isn't what I get here, so let's try and figure out what is
different. First, what version of OneNote are you running? 2003 or 2007? And
if it is 2003, do you have the service patches installed? Since you mention
the Unfiled Notes section, I am guessing 2007 - let me know if that isn't
correct.

When I do a screen clip (either through Insert--> Screen Clipping or
Windows-S), my screen dims and my cursor changes to a plus sign. I can then
click and drag to select the part of the screen I want to select. When I
release the mouse button, I get a message that "the clipping has been saved
to the clipboard" (there is more to the message than that), and I get a new
page in my Unfiled Notes section with teh new content. (That page shows up
at the very bottom of the list of Unfiled Notes pages.)

Since we know you aren't seeing the same thing I do when you use Windows-S,
try using Insert--> Screen clipping and let us know if that works
differently. It is possible that some other program has Windows-S defined
and is getting in the way. Another good test to help track things down is to
take a screen clipping, then go to an empty page in your notes and do a
paste. Let us know what you get then.

OK, Kathy. I tried your test on this discussion page and it worked both ways.
I got the plus sign, the dimming and the paste on the untitled notes page.
Perhaps it was something with the page I originally tried to sample?

My guess is that either it was something on the page you were trying to grab
or a gremlin. If it happens again, let us know what URL - maybe someone can
re-create the problem and figure out what to report to the OneNote team.
