Getting text to appear in another cell

Hi,

I am using Excel 2003. There maybe a simple solution for this, but being
very new to Excel I am struggling a bit and would be grateful for any help.

I am developing a horse tracking spreadsheet. What I want to do is create a
formula that does the following:

If I input "W" into cell, say J6, I want the character "L" to automatically
show up in J5 and J7.
Likewise, if I input "W" into J5, I would want the character "L"
automatically inserted into J6 and J7 and the same goes for a "W" into J7,
the character "L" would be automatically inserted into J5 and J6.

The "W" stands for Winner and the "L" stands for Loser. An example would
be;

J5=W
J6=L
J7=L

Hope this makes sense.

Hi Adrian
this can't be achieved with formulas. This kind of logic would require
VBA (using an event procedure) as you want to enter values in a cell
and at the same time want to have a formla within this cell!

Hi Adrian...........

Frank's right, of course..........you can't do what you're wanting to do,
just with formulas......."BUT", one thing you might consider is to just make
ALL the cells "L" with Copy and Paste, and then just type in the "W" for the
winner..............this way you still only have to type in one letter per
race..........another thing you might consider.......lots of "Race result
charts" show the "Order of Finish" for all the entries, not just the
winner........
