Getting Wrong Key Code when installing

D

Dan

I had a HDD crash and im reinstalling everything on a new
HDD. I have W2k pro with service pack 3 and I go to
install MS office XP pro and when i put in the Product Key
code it says its invalid. So i when and tried a different
XP office spare i had and I get the same thing.

Is there something im doing wrong? Do i need to install
the Office XP before SP 3?

The office XP i have does not have SP 2.

Your post is a little confusing. You mention several different versions of
Office. To install any copy of Office you must use a Product Key(PK) for the
exact version on the CD. You cannot use a PK for Office 2000 to install a copy
of XP Pro, and you can't use a PK for XP Pro to install XP Std. or any other
version. You don't have to use a specific PK for a particular CD, but you MUST
match the PK to the version on the CD.

I don't believe there is an SP3 for Office XP, either, BTW.

Hope this helps,
John

What the problem im having is I have Window 2000 Pro, that
had a HDD crash.

I got the new HDD and reinstalled Windows 2000 pro with
SP3 and all drivers.

When i go and install MS Office XP and when i go to put
the PK in it give me an error saying its not the right 25
characters. I tried other PK and CDs and it will not me
install it.

I ended up being able to install Office 2000 instead. but
Is there anyway to get the XP office to work?

One possiblility is that it's very easy to confuse similar letters or a letter
with a number in the font used for the product keys. Make sure you haven't
done that.
