"ghost" attachments

I've had several people tell me they were unable to open an attachment to an
email I sent to them, even though I haven't sent them an attachment. It
seems the attachment symbol is showing up on my emails even though I'm not
attaching anything. Can someone suggest a cure? Thanks.

Stop sending messages in Rich Text Format would be my first guess, assuming
the attachment is named winmail.dat.

I just checked - my email is set up to send in HTML.

What is the name of the attachment that is being received? Can you
reproduce the problem?

Sorry for the delay with my reply...

I emailed my wife at work this morning to see if the attachment showed up -
she said my email to her came through with the paper clip showing, but when
she clicks on it, nothing opens. There is no name associated with the paper
clip. However, she said that when she went to reply to my email, it showed a
box for the attachment with an icon of a piece of paper with a red and blue
line in it. When she clicked on that, a bunch of folders came up - one said
"adobe", the next said "cookies", the next said "e scan", the next said
"history", then a bunch of DF files. She thought the attachment would be
included with the reply to me, but it wasn't, so I can't verify any of this
or dig any deeper into these attached folders.

What mail client does your wife use? Is she able to see the whole source of
the message?

She also uses Outlook, but I've also been told about the "attachments" from
people using Outlook Express.

Have one of the OE folks hit Control - F4 on the message which should pull
up the source of the message. Have them select everything and send it to
you in a text file.
