ghost remnant

Running Word 2007 in Vista, I have a phrase that was originally
entered in a text box in a picture frame, that I later deleted (I
think; or it got lost hidden somewhere). In any case, I can't see it
on my screen anywhere, but it appears when I print. I've tried
deleting that section of my document, but it still remains on a blank
page. It can't be seen on the screen or selected to delete in any way
I've found. How the heck can I find this thing and exterminate it?
(This is part of a booklet that will be mass-printed, so I have to get
rid of it.) Thanks!

Are you viewing non-printing characters? If not use Ctrl+Shft+8 or ¶ icon to
toggle. The box/frame may have been formatted as hidden somehow.
Hope this helps

Thanks Dean. I tried that, and it is interesting, but doesn't seem to
provide any clues.

Rather than "non-printing characters", my problem seems to be "non-
displaying characters"--Ones that do print, but don't show up on my
monitor. Does that make any sense?

This text box was not added into the header/Footer was it?
Also see Tools, Options, View, and Picture placeholders, see if checking
that makes anything appear. Cross-fingers ;-)
Maybe , transfer the good parts of your document into a new file, and
attempt not to tranfer the ghost.

Thanks Dean. Headers and footers should not be involved here. I
tried checking the show-placeholders box, along with most every box I
could think of. No difference. And I am using "print layout view".
This is the craziest dang thing. I try deleting and replacing various
elements of my document (tables, text boxes, page breaks, etc.) to try
to pin it down. Each of those things seems sometimes to make it go
away; then it reappears when I add something completely different!
This document is definitely haunted. Does anybody have any other
ideas, before I spend the next two days retyping the whole thing from
scratch? I'll email it to you if you'd like a good challenge!

Thanks
Tom
