GIF Animation

Hi. Unable to find anyone here in Australia that will sell me some Gif
Animation software. I don't want a free download that never works or to
download anything as my broadband connection is poor.

I just want to create those silly little animations that everyone else seems
to do so often and easily ! Is there a popular software that is used or is it
always via a larger software package?
I have downloaded Microsoft Gif Animator but can't get it to work properly
yet.

Try http://www.coffeecup.com/gif-animator/ . It has a 14 trial period and
then it's $29 US, which is good value.

Although your question doesn't concern Frontpage, I will suggest this:

Since you already have MS Gif animator, I'd stick with that. It allows you
to import the images you create to assemble them into order and play them
back as the animation, but you have to first create the individual images
that make up the frames, in an image editor. What aspect of that
application have you not been able to get to work?

The gif animation you see on the web (*.gif types anyway) are the simplest
form of "cell animation" you'd see. In other words, they are a string of
still images (the terminology used is "cells" or "frames") put together and
displayed in succession and in sequence, to get the appearance of a moving
image.

Anyway I don't know that I 've told you anything here you're not already
aware of. Just curious, what is it about your broadband that is "poor" as
you state above. It is that you don't want to waste download quota on
software that might not suit your needs, or is it to do with quality, line
speed etc?

You also say you don't want to download software that may never work. Have
you had experience with free software (for your purpose here, or other uses)
that hasn't worked? If not, how do you know what will or won't work unless
you try it? :-\

Have you tried any of the Gif Animator type products (from "ULead" for
example?).....on www.tucows.com there would be plenty of choices.

Hope this helps.
Andrew.

Thanks, sorry for being vague. I'm a Frontpage user and came here for help
just in case, there's a lot of smart people here.

My Broadband connection is wireless in a country area and it cuts out a fair
bit so downloading stuff that takes several minutes is iffy. ( I once
uploaded to Youtube something that took ages and it got to 98% and dropped
out ! ! ! )

I have had a few experiences where free download software just doesn't work
but I'm not cluey enough to know why.

I will persist with MS Gif Animator which acted a bit erratic but I do
understand the basic principal of gif animation so can at leats visualise
what is happening.
I would also like a software that can convert .avi files to .gif that would
be great.

I have just downloaded a trial version of a software mentioned in this
thread and will give it a go and will look thru tucows.

I wanted to buy a Ulead software I think it is called Animation Shop but
whatever it is I can't get it here in Australia which is annoying.

I did a bit of animation on a page of my web site (it's just a hobby) which
worked out really well, good imagery and small file size but it's an .avi
file and no-one seems to be able to see it which is a shame

it's the photo in the top lefthand corner.

ANyway, I'll get ther eventually ! Thanks
