Gif displayed flipped over (upside down)

Mike Dol

I use a Gif in the header to create a letterhead.
From time to time a client tells me that the gif has
flipped from top to bottom. I have finally seen this for
my self, copied it, emailed it back to my PC and guess
what? its ok again!
I believe that it is a quirk of the client computer rather
than the gif

Any thoughts ?

More info
word 97 and Word 2000 display the Gif correctly.

Word 2002 (10.4.. SP-2) displays the Gif Inverted ????!!

For what its worth we've had exactly the same problem.
We now use different templates for different versions of
Word

Hi Mike,

Word 2002 supports rotating graphics that Word97 and 2000
did not. Unfortunately the older versions stored the
fact that you had 'flipped' the graphic at some point,
it just didn't show it.

Updating Office/Word or using the registry change
in this article should help:

For the 'go figures' part: the MS White Paper on the topic:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;822228
may be helpful, including the section on Template usage.

Here is the actual link that can be propagated to clients
who have this problem

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;823734

Interestingly enough the root cause "can" be putting the
image over the page boundary, this causes the "flip
horizontal" parameter to activate BUT this is ignored by
Word 97/2000 but acted on by 2002

Many thanks
Mike

I took my document to word2002, flipped the image the
right way up (which blew it from a 3kb gif to 2 meg)
imported it in to Mircrosoft image composer (to convert
back to gif for size purposes) then took it back to the
word97 doc and Voila, its the right way up in all versions.

Why was the needed? this is the letterhead template for
the company.

Mike
Many thanks to those that helped
