GIF Image Transfer

I am in posession of a word 2003 document. Many of them can easily be
copied to another word document when an 'option' icon appears allowing: keep
formatting and picture. Other GIF images do not offer this option and I find
that I must accept an image icon between the text. 'Properties' do not offer
the option to display the image. Other times an empty frame appears where
the image was supposed to be. Looking for guidance to display all GIF images.
