Gif in signature

I have searched this group on this subject before posting and found
numerous posts with no replies and some that didn't really answer the
question.
Is there a way to do this or not?
I have tried, and while the animation works in the create signature
box, it is static in the new email message, and on sending a test
email to myself it then appears as an attachment, which is also
static.

Cheers for any help.

When composing it will be static (fortunately or you could drive yourself
crazy instead of just the receiver).

Make sure you receive the message in HTML format as well. If it gets
converted to Plain Text it will show as attachment.

If you open the attachment make sure you open it in a viewer that can
display animations. Using IE for it should work.

Cheers for speedy reply, this may be my problem.
How do I check if I am receiving mail as HTML?

Thanks

Open the message and check the Format menu. You can also easily see it when
you add color to your initial message.

And if it is not, which isn't, how do I enable it. It is greyed out.

I managed to change it to html, but the gif still does not display.
I noticed in my "sent items" they are working, but not in received
mail. In fact the format of my recieved mail looks nothing like what I
have sent. Hyperlinks are not displayed as I have sent them.
Have I not got some settings set correctly?

In Outlook 2003 you have an option to read all mail in Plain Text;
Tools-> Options-> E-mail Options (or even Advanced E-mail Options)
If that one isn't ticked it could be caused by third party add-ins like
virus and spam scanners or that your ISP doesn't allow HTML formatted
messages to be received. Try sending it to an account that does support it
for sure like Hotmail.

Having no joy receiving my mail in the same format as I send it in
Outlook, but I tried receiving one in Outlook Express and it works
perfect.
Thanks anyway.
