I write with a question that has stumped my company's IT department.
My company uses Outlook 2003, but we are moving to Outlook 2007 in the near
future. Occasionally, we need to ask multiple users and have them set the
auto-archiving settings on their Archive PSTs and other PSTs so that emails
are kept indefinitely.
Currently, this is a manual process that requires us to provide instruction
sheets or to initiate NetMeetings that walk the user through right-clicking
on the PST in Outlook, going to Properties, and altering the auto-archiving
settings. I would like to automate the process, but preparing a macro is
difficult because of variations in the folder names and the possibility of
the macro being interrupted while it runs.
We have found a tool that can run on the Exchange server that globally
manages auto-archiving settings on mailbox folders for multiple users, but
nothing for managing PSTs on users' machines. Is anyone aware of a process
or an add-on product that would allow someone from our IT department to
change PST autoarchiving settings for multiple users remotely?
Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer. My apologies if I have
not stated the question in the correct technical language. I am a general
user.
