Global.mpt vs. Enterprise Global

Hello,

How can a user (Project Manager) store his custom views in its own
Global.mpt (local) *without* storing anything more in the Enterprise Global
?

Thanks ahead for your help!

Project managers cannot save any personal objects in the Enterprise Global
file. That permissions belongs to the Project Server administrator alone.
The Enterprise Global file is saved on the server and is reserved for
corporate (enterprise) objects. The Global.mpt file is saved on the PM's
hard drive and is reserved for personal objects. An object is a View,
Table, Filter, Group, Report, etc.

To store a personal object in his/her Global.mpt file, the PM should do the
following:

1. Open a project in Microsoft Project Professional
2. Create the custom object
3. Click Tools - Organizer
4. Select the tab for the type of object he/she created
5. Select the Type of object, if necessary (such as Task or Resource) at
the top of the dialog
6. Select the new object from the right side of the dialog and click the
Copy button
7. Click the Close button

Performing the above steps will make the personal object accessible in all
current and future projects for the PM in question. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot Dale,

Sorry, I failed to specify that this Project Manager had temporarily the
administrator permissions. So he has the only option to copy the custom view
to the "Globale (+Entreprise mise en cache)". He doesn't see his Global.mpt
on the left side of the Organizer.
So an Administrator can't copy a view in his local Global.mpt ?

Thanks again

He should simply follow the steps I have detailed, and copy the View from
the right to the left. Out of curiosity, doesn't this procedure work? If
not, does he see an error of some kind? Let us know.

Helo Dale,

There is no error message, but the left hand list is for Globale
(+Entreprise mise en cache).
So the copied object arrives into the Enterprise Global. And there no other
choice. ??

Thanks for your help

Hi.

As I know there's only this way to copy views.
Your user has to open the file in which he stored his own view as well as
the enterprise global. In the organizer choose "Global
(Non-Cached-Enterprise)" on the left and "Checked out Global" on the right
and copy it.

In my opinion it is not very good to give someone rights for the enterprise
global but the administrator. Next time the user can just send you his
Global.mpt or project in which the view is and you can copy it.

hope this helps

Sylvia

NO, the custom objects do not get added to the Enterprise Global file using
the process I detailed. You must actually open the Enterprise Global file
for editing and then copy the custom objects to it before they appear in the
Enterprise Global. The process I detailed will copy the custom objects to
the user's Global.mpt file only. Hope this helps.
