Global.mpt

Dear Sirs,

I have installed and re-installed the Trial version of
Project Standard 2003. I always get the same error
message when I open it.

"Project could not open Global.MPT
To restore the original Global.mpt, re-run Setup and then
select Repair. You may also need to delete the copy of
Global.mpt in your personal folder."

Then, when I want to save my work, I get another message:
"Do you want to save changes to the temporary Global.mpt?
If you save the temporary Global.mpt Project will not try
to restore the original Global.mpt next time you open
Project. Some of the views and macros that were in the
original Global.mpt will not be available. Do you want to
Save Global.mpt or Don't save Global.mpt?"

If I go ahead and save Global.mpt... I get the following
message:"Project is attempting to save C:\Documents and
Settings\...\Global.MPT. A file with this name already
exists and is probably disabled. You should let project
replace the existing file. To Replace the existing file,
click OK."

If I click OK, nothing happens. Then, when I want to
recover my work, Project can not open the saved file.

I have done everything recommended (i.e. delete Global.mpt
and re-install the program, delete the whole program and
re-install it...).

I would really appreciate it if you could help me.

Elena

Hi,

If you have a locked down PC environment, then they may have the folder
where Project saves the Global.Mpt file set to read only and that can cause
the problem. To get around this, try copying the Global.Mpt file to the
folder that has your project file. When you open a file by double-clicking
it in Explorer, I think Project looks in the same folder first for the
Global file. Please let me know if this works - just for future reference.
