Global resource leveling

K

Kelly

Hello,

My company are currently rolling out Project Professional with Project
Server bit by bit, so we’re only saving our plans to the server at the moment
and we’re not currently using the resourcing capability in the system.

We’ve switched off the email notification function, but when our project
managers enter resource into their plans, the dates on their plans are thrown
out if they choose a resource that has been used in another plan.

Is there anyway of switching off this resource leveling function at a global
level, so that 2 project managers can have the same resource on the same day
without the dates changing in their plans (as we’re currently using other
in-house software to deal with these conflicts at the moment).

Many thanks,

Kelly

Short answer is No. This is the way the tool has been designed so that you
are aware of resource conflicts. If the project managers use the correct %
allocation to the tasks then there shouldn't be a problem. What you are
experiencing is the reality of the situation. The toll is telling you what
is going to happen based on current allocations.

It sounds like your PM's have set resource leveling to Automatic. If so,
this should be set to Manual by doing the following:

1. Launch Microsoft Project Professional and log into Project Server
2. Click Tools - Level Resources
3. At the top of the dialog, set the Leveling calculations option to Manual
4. Click the OK button

Hope this helps.

also you can change that in an enterprise level in case a project manager
forgets to turn off automatic leveling by going through the following:

1. log in as administrator
2. open enterprise resource pool
3. check out all resources
4. add column "can level"
5. make sure that the "can level" field is turned to no
6. save

this way no resources can be leveled in your enterprise
