Global Template

I am new to Project Enterprise, and have a number of questions:

1. I am have been given Save Enterprise Global permission. When I open
Project 2003 and try to OPEN ENTERPRISE GLOBAL from the Tools/Enterprise
Options menu, it is disabled.
2. Tasks are assigned to a user. When the user signs onto the project
server, he is unable to change the actual time spent (in timesheet mode). He
can only change percentage complete. He can't add the number of hours he has
spent on a task in the given day.
3. We would like to create custom fields for tasks. They do not show up in
project server.

We are following the directions in the manuals we have, but find things
aren't working as stated. Are there server settings (as in when this was
installed) that should be looked at?

1. You need to create an Administrator login account in Microsoft Project
Professional. Refer to the following link for the directions:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/CreateAdministratorLoginAccount.htm

2. You need to change your organization's method of tracking. Refer to the
following link for the steps to do this:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/ChangeTrackingMethod.htm

3. Given your lack of experience with Project Server 2003, and your
frustrations so far, I would strongly recommend you purchase our company's
two books on Project Server 2003. One book is specifically for
administrators such as yourself, and has detailed directions on how to set
up custom enterprise fields and outline codes. The other book is for
project managers, and details precisely how to properly use Project Server.

Within the Administrator account, we had already changed our method of
tracking. When the administrator signs on, she is able to change hours.
When another user signs on (whom we've put into the administrator group now)
he is unable to change the hours.

From your description of the continuing problem, I get the impression you
did not do everything specified in the ChangeTrackingMethod.htm page that I
referenced in my last message. Did you change the default method of
tracking in PWA on the Customize Project Web Access page? Did your project
managers then open all of their projects and republish the assignments, as
specified in the same page? They MUST do this to set the new method of
tracking on each user's View My Tasks page. Let us know what you actually
did and we'll try to help.
