that It could not connect to incomming server (POP3). could be server name or
port, or your server may not support SSL. I have done everything gmail said
to w/ no good results. Am novice needing help. Am running Outlook 2003.

What is the exact error that you get?

Often send/receive issues are being caused by having a virus scanner
installed that integrates with Outlook. Disable/uninstall this integration
and try again.

As stated in the article I gave you the link for, disabling your virus
scanner's integration with Outlook doesn't compromise security as it doesn't
provide an extra level of protection to begin with. You can safely uninstall
this part of your virus scanner as it is the on-access scanner part of your
virus scanner that really does all the protecting.

Disabled virus scanner and it still didn't work.

Simply disabling it doesn't always work. You should complete uninstall your
A/V program, the do a custom reinstall without the email scanning module.

I disabled Trend Micro PC-cillin and reinstalled it. It still doesn't work.
Do you think I should upgrade to Outlook 2007? Would spending the money help
my problem?

Probably not as it should work with Outlook 2003 already. Your issue is more
likely to be a configuration issue which upgrading won't help your with.

Have you verified that all your settings are indeed correct? Especially port
settings?
The settings posted here for Gmail should work;
http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/accountsettings.htm

Also, have you checked that your firewall isn't blocking these ports to be
used by Outlook?

In some cases an ISP may not allow the use of 3rd party SMTP servers on
their network. In that case, you'll have to use the SMTP server settings of
your ISP instead those of Gmail. Contact your ISP if you do not know these
settings.
